NOTE: All work MUST be original and created by the competitor(s) himself. By submitting your work you are agreeing that MIST has the right to return or keep all work/submissions/entries.
If you violate and/or not fulfill any of the following rules, you could loose points or even be disqualified from the tournament.
- No more than 2 students from each team can register for this competition.
- This competition is NOT a team effort. Each competitor must turn in a separate piece of work.
- MIST ID and order of competition will be pre-assigned on a random selection basis.
- Competitors shall report at the appropriate time and place designated.
- Judges shall know the competitors by their MIST IDs.
- All Artwork must be labeled with the MIST ID ONLY. If the contestant name appears anywhere on the artwork, it will be disqualified.
- No more than $100 can be spent on supplies.
- Artwork must relate to the overall MIST Theme.
- Artwork cannot include faces of animals and humans. Plants, landscapes, and inanimate objects are allowed. You can have hands, feet, a silhouette of a human body, the back of the body, the back of a head…etc. The only thing you cannot have is the face. If in doubt, email dcmist@gmail.com..
- Acceptable mediums for artwork include, but are not limited to: watercolor, oil, crayon, mixed mediums, chalk, pastels, charcoal…etc.
- Make sure your artwork is dry before submitting it to the judges.
- All 2D artwork must be mounted with a 1″ to 2″ border. Suggestions for mounting include: mat board and illustration board. Please affix artwork to the mounting material with spray glue or tape. Do not use staples, paper clips, or any glues that could seep through and damage the artwork. Please do not use cardboard for mounting artwork.
- Artwork should NOT be rolled or folded.
- Each participant will be interviewed for five (5) minutes in order to describe the purpose and inspiration of the artwork.
- MANDATORY: No Artwork will be accepted without the following: A typed, short explanation of, no more than ONE page must be included with the artwork. The explanation MUST include your idea and inspiration behind the artwork as well as a discussion of the techniques and mediums you considered and applied in creating the artwork. Judging will be based on the explanation provided in writing and the artwork itself. Artwork that makes it past the preliminary gallery round will also be considered based on a brief interview with the judges.
- Judging criteria will be based upon the official MIST National Ballot.
